HOUSTON – Another Sunday on the home turf and the end result was another loss. The NFL season now spiraling through seven weeks where the Texans are now sitting a dismal 2 and 5 on the year.
“Being o-fer at home isn’t what we expected it to be,” Head Coach DeMeco Ryans said Monday. “We want to give our fans better.”
So this much we know, this team has a major problem on defense. It’s a unit that was ranked number last season and one that is now in disarray.
“if it’s not showing up I’ve gotta do a better job to make sure it shows up. What you see on tape is what we’re coaching. If it shows up on tape then we’re not tackling well and I’ve got to put the guys in position to get that done during the week
So what is the common theme during this start to the season? Lack of takeaways are a component but what’s even more clear is poor tackling. The Texans finished with 29 missed tackles in Sunday’s loss to the Giants
“We’re not wrapping, we’re not driving and we’re not finishing,” said GM Nick Caserio. “Tackling is a mindset and it’s about your mentality and physical toughness.”
Staring at an uphill climb.. is the mindset in place to get the job done?
“Strap it up and let’s go,” said Ryans. “That’s my mindset and our team mindset and we still have to go and attack this thing the right way.”
After the bye week the Texans travel to Los Angeles to take on the currently winless Chargers on Sunday November 8.
