Titans HC Details What is ‘Different’ for Cam Ward in NFL originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Tennessee Titans are seemingly putting all their eggs into the Cam Ward basket ahead of the 2025 NFL season. The franchise used the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft on the former Miami Hurricane, and they are doing everything in their power to ease his transition to the professional level.

His 4,313-yard, 39-touchdown campaign as a senior was enough for new general manager Mike Borgonzi to take a swing on him so early in the draft. This potential alone should be enough for Ward to supplant incumbent starter Will Levis right away.

Ward will have to learn quickly if he wants to help the Titans improve from their three-win season last year, but they have plenty of time to work out the kinks.

OTAs have been underway for a few weeks now in Tennessee, and Ward is getting his lay of the land with his new receivers. Returners Calvin Ridley and Chig Okonkwo are expected to be big targets for the team’s new signal-caller.

Not everything has been perfect during the offseason program for the Titans’ rookie quarterback, however. Head coach Brian Callahan spoke to the media on Tuesday about a few things that will be different for Ward at the professional level.

“It’s just the recognition part, understanding what’s being thrown at him from a defensive perspective,” Callahan said. “He’s seeing different types of space and field defense, throws that he might have made in college that don’t show up in the NFL, … Just the act of doing things that he’s maybe used to doing that are different at this level.”

While Ward is certainly new to the Titans, not every player on the roster is unfamiliar. His favorite target at Miami, wide receiver Xavier Restrepo, signed with the team as an undrafted free agent.

Restrepo will compete with free agent additions Tyler Lockett and Van Jefferson, as well as fourth-round picks Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor for not only a roster spot, but a solid snap share as a rookie.

The Titans begin their season on the road against a tough opponent in a hostile environment. They will travel to Denver to take on the Broncos, who won 10 games last season and boast one of the NFL’s best defenses.
