One of the biggest perceived strengths of the Tennessee Titans is their defensive line anchored by Jeffery Simmons and T’Vondre Sweat. This tandem, along with Sebastian Joseph-Day, is the only unit that has not undergone any sort of transformation and should serve as the foundation for the defense heading into the 2025 season.

During the first week of Phase 3 practices, there was a significant deal made about Simmons not participating. However, the same ones talking about Simmons failed to mention that Sweat did not take part in the open practice last week. That all changed on Tuesday, when the second-year defensive tackle not only took part, but he also caught up with some members of the media after the session.

“I am very excited going into my second year,” he said. “I feel a lot more comfortable playing this game, especially in my second year in this league.”

Sweat, who spent time during the offseason working on taking a big step forward, appears to be in better shape and discussed the daily grind and preparation for the upcoming season.

“I did more like the little parts on my body,” he said. “Like strengthening my shoulders, my hips, my mobility, all that type stuff.”

It is that mobility and a focus on quickness that could help transform his game in 2025. The second-round pick is coming off a solid rookie season, during which he played in all 17 games and finished with 51 tackles, 23 quarterback pressures, and a sack. But there is still room for growth as a pass rusher, and now lighter and quicker, he could make a larger impact.
