How Concerning Is Michael Clemons’ Absence At Jets OTAs? originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
FLORHAM PARK – When a player is fighting for a roster spot, it’s common practice for him to be a part of every single offseason practice – even if the workouts are voluntary.

That isn’t the case with edge rusher Michael Clemons of the New York Jets.
A mid-round pick by the team as part of the 2022 NFL Draft class, Clemons was selected with the hope his athletic frame would help bolster a defensive line in desperate need of an upgrade.
That hasn’t happened.
Clemons has committed more penalties than recorded sacks so far in his career. He’s entering a “do-or-die” situation, but didn’t even show up to Tuesday’s practice.
Despite that, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn was not concerned.
“You just haven’t seen him today because he was just not out there today,” Glenn explained. “So, he’s been here, just like the rest of the guys. And listen, I said it before, it’s not mandatory. But other days I said we had 100-percent participation.”

Other players like All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner, edge rusher Will McDonald, and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams were also not seen at practice on Tuesday. Those players have their roster spot secured, though.
And while we don’t know the reason Clemons was away on Tuesday (there are many legitimate excuses to not be in attendance), fans have every reason to be concerned as it’s certainly not good optics for a player who is fighting for his football life. …
Especially one that has been a net negative player in his career.
