Trade Idea Moves Packers’ Romeo Doubs to Broncos originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Denver Broncos have added plenty of weapons to second-year quarterback Bo Nix’s offensive arsenal ahead of the 2025 season. After signing veteran tight end Evan Engram to a two-year, $23 million contract in March, the Broncos used draft picks to add running back RJ Harvey and wide receiver Pat Bryant to their roster.

But the team remains thin at the wideout position, even with the acquisition of Bryant. Courtland Sutton, coming off his first 1,000-yard season since 2019, remains the Broncos’ most dangerous threat through the air, but the room is thin behind him.

This lack of depth is the primary reason why Pro Football Network’s Brandon Austin suggests that the Broncos’ front office should field calls to that of the Green Bay Packers to potentially strike a deal for wide receiver Romeo Doubs.

“The wide receiver room currently features Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims Jr., Devaughn Vele, Troy Franklin, and rookie Pat Bryant,” Austin wrote. “Mims has emerged as a big-play threat, and Sutton had a productive season with 1,000-plus yards and eight scores. Still, he’s not a definitive No. 1 receiver, and Denver could benefit from adding more talent to the room.”

Austin believes the Broncos should specifically target the Packers in such a deal because of the wealth of wide receivers Green Bay has at its disposal. And after a turbulent 2024 season, Doubs could be one of the Packers’ most expendable players at the position.

“The Packers had one of the most crowded WR rooms in the NFL last season, with four players logging at least 500 snaps, more than any other team,” Austin wrote. “Christian Watson’s torn ACL in January slightly clarifies the situation, but Green Bay continued to add talent to the position through the draft — selecting Matthew Golden in the first round and Savion Williams in Round 3.”

Doubs remained relatively productive last year, gaining 601 yards and scoring four touchdowns on 46 receptions. Despite recording a career high in yards per catch (13.1), his 2024 campaign was remembered more for injuries and a one-game suspension for “conduct detrimental to the team” early in the season.

Should the Packers decide to let Doubs go, a trade to the Broncos could provide the three-year veteran with a fresh start and ample opportunities for playing time.
