Aaron Rodgers informed the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday that he intends to sign a one-year contract and attend minicamp as soon as next week, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Before the move, the Steelers were heading into the 2025 NFL season with a major drop-off at quarterback compared to last year’s room that featured Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. Wilson signed with the New York Giants, while Fields signed with the New York Jets.
Meanwhile, the New York Jets parted ways with Rodgers in awkward fashion after a disappointing season. The 41-year-old said he was upset about flying across the country “on his own dime,” only to be told he was being released 20 seconds into the meeting, as he explained on “The Pat McAfee Show.“
Shortly after Thursday’s news made the rounds on social media, Schefter pointed out that Rodgers’ first game as a member of the Steelers is against none other than his former team: the Jets.
Once fans realized who Rodgers was playing in Week 1, they shared their reactions on social media.

“Chance for Fields to beat Rodgers” hinted a fan.
“Oh yeah what a crazy coincidence,” a fan wrote.

Rodgers, a four-time MVP and one-time Super Bowl champion, threw for 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last season, despite only winning five games in 17 starts.
He’ll get a chance to throw passes to former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf, whom the Steelers also acquired this offseason.
