INDIANAPOLIS — Colts chief personnel executive Morocco Brown is no longer with the team, ending a long tenure within the scouting department that led him to several interviews for open general manager jobs around the league.

Brown had been a part of general manager Chris Ballard’s staff since Ballard arrived in Indianapolis in 2017.

The Colts no longer have a chief personnel executive listed on staff.

Brown rose quickly in the eyes of the NFL, earning a promotion to chief personnel executive in 2022 after five seasons with the team. Brown’s work earned him interviews for Atlanta’s general manager job in 2021, then interviewed with Chicago and Pittsburgh in 2022.

He was also instrumental in the scouting process that led to the team using the No. 4 pick of the 2023 NFL draft on quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Brown saw Richardson early and championed the quarterback during the draft process.

“It’s not even the style, it’s just the arm and the legs,” Brown said after the Colts picked Richardson in 2023. “If I’m in the pocket and I have the arm, or if a play breaks down, then I can run. When you have that type of high-level talent, you have to defend every blade of grass on the field, and you can’t, as a defense, if I can run and throw. At some point – the guy is not a finished product at all, but to have those traits it’s just scary to defend a guy.”

Brown has handled more than just the draft since being promoted.

Brown spent his first five seasons with the Colts as the team’s director of college scouting before being promoted to chief personnel executive, a role that required him to do more work on the pro scouting side as one of Ballard’s top assistants.
