When the Arizona Cardinals have been mentioned as a potential trade destination this offseason, it has often been for players on the defensive side of the ball.
The latest trade pitch featuring the team has them looking for something very different in a trade.

This time around, it’s a proposal to get themselves an upgrade at WR2 to play alongside Marvin Harrison Jr.

On March 31, ESPN’s Bill Barnwell released a mock draft where every NFL team makes a trade involving their first round pick.
For the Cardinals, that trade would see them send the 16th overall pick, Michael Wilson, and the 115th overall pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for wide receiver George Pickens and the 21st overall pick.
While the Cardinals spending their first-round pick on a WR2 might be an idea that is tough to sell right now, this looks like something that could work pretty well for them.

They would only have to give up a fourth rounder and move back six spots in the first round, which would allow them to still address another need on their roster in round one.
Pickens would be a big upgrade over Wilson and Greg Dortch. He would also fit well with Harrison.
At this time last year, there was plenty of talk about the Steelers trying to get Brandon Aiyuk in a trade.
The was particularly appealing because of his ability as a route runner, which would have paired him well with Pickens. MHJ hasn’t had the same kind of success in the NFL that Aiyuk has, but his ability as a route runner is his biggest strength.

The Cardinals also wouldn’t be tied to Pickens if the move doesn’t work out as he’s heading into the final year of his rookie contract.
This doesn’t sound like a great offer for the Steelers, but Pickens isn’t nearly as good of a fit alongside DK Metcalf, who the team just acquired. They also are unlikely to pay him next offseason based on their history with receivers.
Pickens took a step back in 2024 after posting 1140 yards in 2023, but a change of scenery could get him back on track.
The Steelers haven’t given any indication Pickens is actually available, but if the Cardinals could land him and still have a first-round pick in this year’s draft, it’s hard to see how they could do much better at the position this offseason.
