Packers quarterback Jordan Love talks at AmFam Championship in Madison

The Packers quarterback is a brand ambassador for American Family Insurance.

MADISON – You can imagine all the people doing double-takes when walking around TPC Wisconsin on June 6.

Seeing Steve Stricker and Jerry Kelly is par for the course at the American Family Insurance Championship. Watching 61-year-old Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez puffing on a cigar while practicing his putting is pretty cool, but that happens at every PGA Tour Champions event.

But is that the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers? What is Jordan Love doing here?

Indeed it was Love. He is in his second year as a brand ambassador for AmFam.

“Just walking around, engaging with the fans,” Love said. “Everybody’s a little surprised sometimes when they’re watching golf and next thing you know I pop up. It’s fun just being out there, interacting. Definitely a lot of Packers fans out there.”

Love didn’t take any questions from the media, so there were no comments about Aaron Rodgers signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers or what he thinks of Jaire Alexander’s contract situation.

Instead Love talked about his own charity, Hands of 10ve. He started it a little over a year ago.

“The main purpose is the three pillars that are important to my life,” Love said. “Which is getting the youth involved in sports, because I feel like at a young age sports were such a big part of my life and kind of shaped a lot of who I am and the morals I have. The hard work, the work ethic, things like that and the relationships I’ve built with friends, mentors, coaches.”

Love said there are camps in his hometown of Bakersfield, California, and in Milwaukee coming up in July.

“The mental health awareness is another pillar of that,” Love said. “Which is a big part of my life with the way I lost my father committing suicide.”

Love said the other pillar for his foundation is law enforcement.

“Both my parents were police,” he said. “Trying to build that bond between law enforcement and the community.

“A lot of events we do have law enforcement out there and be able to speak to the community out there. Make sure they’re understanding the impact law enforcement has on the community.”

Love also talked about how the AmFam field is switching to a team format this season.

“There’s nothing better than team sports,” he said. “Individual sports are great, but getting to come together with a team and winning with a team, I think it’s even more fun.”

And he offered some final advice for teams like Stricker and his brother-in-law Mario Tiziani.

“Don’t get mad at your partner,” Love said.
