Remember: organized team activities are voluntary.

The Denver Broncos had good (but not perfect) attendance at OTAs over the last two weeks. Among the notable absences was defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers, who is expected to report for mandatory minicamp next week (players are subject to fines if they skip mandatory camp).

The Broncos held three practices earlier this week, but only one of them (Thursday’s session) was open to the media. Among the players not present Thursday were left tackle Garett Bolles, wide receiver AT Perry and rookie linebacker Karene Reid. Denver coach Sean Payton seemed to imply Bolles was excused.

“Everyone’s here,” Payton said. “John will be here next week. Periodically… For instance, Garett today had something. It’s that time of the year where that’s fine. It really is the sum total of the five weeks prior in the weight room, out on the field running. It’s been outstanding. Then I would say this city is conducive to players wanting to train here. That can be challenging at some other places.”

Players who appear to be dealing with injuries include linebacker Dre Greenlaw (quad), long snapper Mitchell Fraboni (back), pass rusher Jonah Elliss (shoulder), safety P.J. Locke, running back Blake Watson and defensive lineman Kristian Williams.

The Broncos will presumably have perfect attendance next week when practice is mandatory. After that, players will get a summer break until training camp begins in late July.
