Cincinnati Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson is one of the top stories in the NFL right now.

No wonder, as Hendrickson has one of the most high-profile contract standoffs in recent memory. It not only impacts one of the most important positions in football, it’s currently hanging over a team that thinks of itself as a serious threat in the AFC.

The situation recently caught the attention of Tampa Bay Buccaneers great Lavonte David during an appearance on Kay Adams’ show, where he said Hendrickson deserves to get whatever he wants from the Bengals.

It’s one extreme end of the conversation, being the player’s side of things. The problem is a little more complex, though, given a variety of factors, such as Hendrickson’s past holdouts and the recent one-year extension. His age, the team granting permission to seek a trade that never happened and the desire to get him a pay raise, among others, continue to complicate matters for both parties.

As always in these situations, the solution is probably somewhere in the middle. The target to watch now is whether he risks fines by missing mandatory work next week, then training camp next month.
