It’s been a month, but everyone still talks about Metallica in Blacksburg. The legendary band has played in other cities since, but nothing has received quite the attention of that magical night inside Lane Stadium.
During Friday’s episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, Metallica’s concert in Blacksburg was a topic of conversation. Rogan and his guests were impressed, playing clips of Metallica and clips of a game atmosphere at Virginia Tech, prompting Rogan to say, “Can you imagine being in that audience?” He followed it with a Ric Flair “Wooooooo,” before saying, “look at that f——-g crowd.”
Rogan was clearly impressed. Someone asked if this was Berlin, referring to Metallica’s recent concert in Germany. Comedian Shane Gillis answered, “It’s Blacksburg, Virginia. They’re about to watch some mediocre football.” He laughed.
Check it out, the clip can be found at around the 3:02:28 mark.
The natural reaction for anyone who roots for or cares about Virginia Tech would be to come back at Gillis. But why? He told the truth. That’s the sad reality. Until the Hokies find some way to match the experience of their impressive entrance with “Enter Sandman,” full of screaming Hokie supporters, unfortunately, mediocrity is the new norm.
