After using a second-round pick to select Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough in the NFL draft last week, the New Orleans Saints have released veteran backup quarterback Ben DiNucci.

The 28-year-old journeyman QB confirmed the news on his Twitter/X page.

“The NFL is a tough business,” DiNucci tweeted Tuesday. “Always has been and always will be. Got released by the Saints this morning. Control what I can control and go back to work 🤙🏻.”

DiNucci originally entered the league as a seventh-round pick out of James Madison with the Dallas Cowboys in 2020. After two seasons in Dallas, he impressed in the XFL in the spring of 2023 and then signed with the Denver Broncos that summer. He spent the 2023 season on Denver’s practice squad and attended training camp the following year before being waived.

Since being cut by Denver in 2024, DiNucci has spent time with the Buffalo Bills and Saints. He’s now headed for free agency once again. If no NFL teams come calling, a return to spring football might be in play.
