Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey seemingly has one foot out of Miami at this point, and as such, the Dolphins could have a lot to gain from acquiring a player at the position to soften the blow of his likely departure.

Veteran free agent Rasul Douglas isn’t the incredibly accomplished corner that Ramsey is, but he has a solid track record, and according to a report from Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Douglas is still on Miami’s radar.

The Dolphins have reportedly “maintained contact” with the cornerback despite the fact that he rejected a contract offer from them not long ago.

“The Dolphins have maintained contact with veteran free agent cornerback Rasul Douglas, who rejected a Miami offer earlier this month,” Jackson wrote. “Douglas started 15 games for the [Buffalo] Bills this season.

“They’ve also inquired about former Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas standout and ex-[Los Angeles] Chargers free agent cornerback Asante Samuel Jr., a free agent who’s recovering from neck surgery. He expects to be able to play this season.”

While Douglas’ 2024 season was shaky, he has had some excellent years in the NFL. From the 2021 season through the 2023 season, he totaled 14 interceptions, three of which he returned for touchdowns.

On top of his defensive chops, Douglas would also bring a lot of experience winning at a high level to Miami. He’s a Super Bowl champion, as he won one with the Philadelphia Eagles at the start of his career.

Douglas has experienced some other playoff runs as well, as he just recently played in the AFC Championship Game earlier this year, though his Bills lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jackson mentioned that the Dolphins have inquired about Samuel as well. Samuel was limited to four games played with the Chargers in the 2024 season. He will look to bounce back in 2025 after he managed two interceptions per season in each of his first three years in the NFL plus had three picks in a single playoff game in the 2022 season.

The Dolphins have made it abundantly clear that they are looking to find Ramsey a new NFL home after he spent the last two seasons playing for Miami. Ramsey has logged 27 regular-season contests with the Dolphins and has also appeared in one playoff game.

Whether it’s Douglas, Samuel or someone else, hopefully the Dolphins will add another cornerback to the fold before the start of the 2025 season with the writing on the wall for Ramsey’s time in Miami.
