Should the Ravens make a run for a former All-Pro cornerback?

The Ravens may not be done building this year’s team as an interesting name just hit free agency. On Monday, the Green Bay Packers released former All-Pro second-team cornerback Jaire Alexander in what was considered a cap-saving measure. The seven-year corner was a first-round pick in 2018 and was named a Pro Bowler twice in 2020 and 2022. He has a connection with former college teammate Lamar Jackson, who both were selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft out of the University of Louisville. Alexander has battled injuries lately in his career, only playing in 14 games over the past two seasons. When healthy, he is considered one of the best cornerbacks in the league, but had a cap number of over $24 million this season and over $27 million in 2026. This was too high of a number for a player who has missed so much time lately. The question for the Ravens is whether they will have enough cap space to sign a player like Alexander. They created some space with the release of Justin Tucker and retirement of Michael Pierce, but may need to make some other moves to free up the space necessary. Alexander will demand a salary between $15 million and $20 million and that could be too much for the Ravens to spend at this time. He would represent a significant upgrade over free-agent signee Chidobe Awuzie and would give the Ravens arguably the best secondary in football. They would have to pull off some salary cap magic in order to fit him under the cap, but with the organization in “win-now” mode it wouldn’t be surprising if they put in a call for Alexander.
