Commanders Time To Make Blockbuster Trade For Trey Hendrickson Is Now originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Cincinnati Bengals can’t be accused of being cheap – not overall.
Nor can the Washington Commanders – not anymore.

But the Bengals do have a money problem. And the Commanders do have a roster problem.
And in Washington? Right now might be the right time to strike.
In Cincy, the team broke the bank to keep their star wide receiver tandem of Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins happy, resulting in a cost of over $275 million between the two contract extensions.
But they have been unwilling to do the same for defensive end Trey Hendrickson.
How unhappy is Hendrickson at this point? He’s been described as being “furious” … and he is showing that anger on Tuesday by purposely failing to show up at the Bengals mandatory minicamp.

It’s a holdout. It’s official. And it’s nasty.
And …
Maybe that’s where the Commanders can swoop in.
Hendrickson has asked for a contract extension since the start of the offseason. He is currently slated for an over $18 million cap hit in the final year of his deal. … and there is market-based logic now that makes it clear he can ask for $30 mil per year or maybe even more.
He was initially encouraged to seek out a trade. That didn’t work.
He’s been involved in extension talks. That hasn’t worked, either – in fact, that went so poorly that Hendrickson accused the Cincy front office of being liars.

Tempers are flaring in Cincinnati.
Time for a cool call from Washington and GM Adam Peters. … maybe a chance to take advantage of the situation.
ESPN is suggesting a trade that would cost Washington nothing more than two Day 3 picks and young D-lineman Jer’Zhan Newton. That price is a no-brainer for a Washington team that might be a “final piece” away from a title …
With this guy and his 17.5 sacks per year being that piece.
Washington is shy on picks; it can only offer so much as a result of the Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel trades. But Washington isn’t shy about being aggressive in talent grabs.

And now might be the very best time to strike. Again.
