Are the Carolina Panthers preparing to spice up their cornerback room?
On Monday, the Green Bay Packers released two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander. The 28-year-old defender and former first-round pick is, of course, now free to sign wherever he wishes—with some believing that a homecoming should be in the works.

Head coach Dave Canales was asked about the possibility of adding the Charlotte, N.C. native following the opening outing of mandatory minicamp this afternoon.
“I don’t know that for sure, but we’re always open to the chance of just bringing great players in here to create that competition,” he replied. “I wouldn’t say no. But right now, we have to take all the information in. I’m sure those conversations will happen, just to kinda see like, ‘What are they looking for?’ It’s gotta be the right fit for both sides. And so, those are all things we’d be open to.”
The Panthers, as they’ve been for the past few seasons, are quite thin at the outside cornerback position. Other than starters Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson, the depth chart currently includes Shemar Bartholomew, Akayleb Evans and three undrafted rookies.
If Alexander is interested in joining that group, Canales and company may have to overlook his recent troubles. Since 2021, Alexander has missed 35 of Green Bay’s 72 games due to numerous injuries.

But if the setbacks are behind him, he could be one of those great players this Carolina defense needs.
