Texas Sends Message To Lee Corso After College GameDay Announcement originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Iconic ESPN College GameDay host Lee Corso will be retiring soon.
Corso’s final broadcast will be on Aug. 30 which marks Week 1 of the 2025 college football season. His retirement will be celebrated throughout the segment after nearly 40 years on the show.
Although Corso joined the show in 1987, he particularly became well-known for his headgear picks each week. That iconic tradition began in 1996 and has only grown in popularity since.
The Texas Longhorns will have the chance to be Corso’s final headgear pick in Week 1. On Tuesday, it was announced that the Texas vs. Ohio State matchup in Columbus on Aug. 30 will be the site of ESPN’s College GameDay.
“See you in Week 1,” the Texas football account posted shortly after the announcement.
The decision to choose Columbus for ESPN’s College GameDay site to kick off the season seems to be a no-brainer. Not only is the Texas-Ohio State matchup the biggest of Week 1, it’s one of the most highly anticipated games of the entire season.
The winner will likely be the heavy favorite to take home the national title this season. In ESPN’s updated FPI (Football Power Index), the Longhorns enter the year as the No. 1 team in the nation with the Buckeyes just behind at No. 4.
We’ll see which team earns Corso’s final headgear pick soon enough.
