Titans Reveal Troubling Update on $76 Million Star originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The beginning of L’Jarius Sneed’s Tennessee Titans tenure has not gone according to plan. The team traded a 2025 third-round pick and a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs last offseason to land the cornerback, and then they handed him a four-year, $74.6 million contract upon arrival.

However, he has not been able to live up to his contract. He played in just five games last season due to injury, and he hasn’t been able to practice with the team this offseason.

It sounds like he won’t be back anytime soon. According to head coach Brian Callahan’s latest press conference, Sneed will not be attending the team’s mandatory minicamp this week.

Sneed already got paid, so he’s not sitting out due to any contract disputes. A quadriceps injury knocked him out last season, but it’s seemingly not getting better.

This should be a major concern for the Titans. They spent a lot to trade for him and then on his new contract. If they cut him now, they’ll have to eat a $31.1 million dead cap hit.

This means that he’ll at least be with the Titans through the 2025 season. After 2025, he’d only have an $8.1 million dead cap hit. If he doesn’t get back on the field and play well this season, he’s almost certainly going to be a free agent next year.

Sneed should be highly motivated to get back on the field if he hopes to earn the rest of his Titans contract or get big money elsewhere in the future.
