FLORHAM PARK, N.J. –When the New York Jets drafted Missouri tackle Armand Membou with the seventh overall pick in April’s draft, they hoped he could be a day-one starter along the offensive line.

So far, that is precisely what Membou has shown through OTAs and minicamps.

The Missouri product hasn’t been perfect. During offseason workouts, some of New York’s better pass rushers beat him multiple times.

That is okay, though. He is learning how to be a professional, and getting beat during minicamp isn’t a recipe for disaster—it’s what normally happens to rookie offensive linemen.

It’s also important to note that head coach Aaron Glenn remains very high on the youngster.

“Membou’s doing outstanding,” Glenn said. “He’s working his butt off. He’s learning every day, too.

“I think he’s doing really, really good there. I think it’s just adjusting from, I mean, being in Missouri to being here in the NFL and playing against a top-notch rusher he’s been going against week-in and week-out.”

New York has one of the youngest projected starting offensive lines in the league. Membou, being the youngest of the group, should only help enhance the their athleticism and physicality in the run game specifically.

Early returns have shown Membou is exactly who the Jets hope for him. A strong rookie that has all the potential to be one of the best players on the team.

So long as he continues to work as hard as he has, the Jets will be thrilled with what they have in him.
