GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Just over a month after the NFL Draft concluded, a well-known analytics location firm provided data on the event’s Green Bay debut, prompting Mayor Eric Genrich to fire back at the Detroit Lions.

In a release from Mayor Genrich’s office, it cited data from Placer.ai, which said the draft in Green Bay saw about 312,000 unique visitors, compared to 238,900 in Detroit. Placer.ai is used by companies like Sony, Google and Meta.

If you calculate the percentage increase, that’s about a 30.6% increase. The Detroit Lions’ President previously predicted that the rival Packers and Green Bay NFL Draft would fall short of Detroit, and as the numbers indicate otherwise, Mayor Genrich took his shots.

“Quoting Coach Lombardi, ‘Winning isn’t everything; it’s the only thing,’” Mayor Genrich said in a release. “To put it in football terms, this is sort of like when the Packers clinched a 28-24 win over the Lions in that 1993 playoff game with a Sterling Sharpe touchdown in the final minute.”

The NFL’s rough total of 600,000 attendees came from the number of ‘turnstile passes’ at the event; however, that doesn’t account for the same person attending two or three days. Thus, Placer.ai takes into account unique visitors through various methods, like mobile app partners.

Mayor Genrich added to his statement, calling out the Lions’ desire to find a win, especially as a team that is still seeking a Lombardi Trophy.

“As one of the handful of teams never to have won a Super Bowl, the Lions are understandably looking for wins where they can find them, but it appears they came up a little short again,” Mayor Genrich said. “Best of luck to them next time.”

However, while Mayor Genrich stood up for his city against a rival team, there was one final statement that the two cities will likely concur with.

“We welcome the rivalry with our friends in Detroit, and we’re proud to have bested them with visitor attendance at our Draft, but I think we can both agree that the Bears still suck,” Mayor Genrich said.

This statement from Mayor Genrich came about a month after he credited the entire community for uniting for the successful draft.
