QB Daniel Jones highlighted what he has seen during offseason programs from Colts’ rookie TE Tyler Warren.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones has been impressed by the play of rookie tight end Tyler Warren during the team’s offseason programs.

“I think he’s had a great spring,” Jones said of Warren after Thursday’s practice. “He’s made a lot of plays for us out here, and you can see his feel, his instincts, his strength, just his ability to go up and catch the ball. I’ve really enjoyed working with him. He has a really mature approach to his work and preparation, and that’s shown up on the field.”

During the team portions of practices, Warren has often been “very active” in the passing game. He joins the Colts after recording over 100 receptions and totaling over 1,200 receiving yards during his final season at Penn State. As GM Chris Ballard has mentioned, Warren can be a real threat over the middle of the field.

Given the Colts’ need for a much greater passing game presence at tight end, Warren’s ability to impact the game in that regard may be what stands out the most. However, Warren also brings a very well-rounded skill set to the Colts offense, able to line up across the formation and also hold his own as a blocker.

Having that do-it-all presence at tight end adds a level of unpredictability to an offense because that player is able to fill so many roles. This then not only creates opportunities for the tight end to exploit, but for his teammates as well.

Warren’s impact within the Colts’ offense should be felt right away and can happen in a variety of ways.

“The whole group’s got a lot of work to do together to get to where we want to go, but I think he’s had a really good spring,” Jones said.
