Owner of Tuscaloosa Archibald and Woodrow’s BBQ cooks for Pittsburgh Steelers coaches

  • June 13, 2025

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – People from a well-known west Alabama restaurant left the state to give some home cooking to dozens of pro-football coaches.

A long friendship and building trust with the team’s head coach over sparked that business trip.

Woodrow Washington, the owner of Archibald’s BBQ and Archibald and Woodrow’s, developed a relationship with coaches for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Washington says Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin hired him to come to Pittsburgh and cook for his assistants for a special event.

He shared pictures of him and his staff posing for pictures with Tomlin and some Steeler coaches.

Quarterback Aaron Rogers, who just signed with the Steelers, also took pictures with the guys from Woodrow’s.

They cooked 240 rib slabs and 650 chicken wings.

They brought the food and used a grill at the Tomlin’s home to feed around 70 people.

Steeler assistant Karl Dunbar, who also coached at Alabama under Nick Saban, is a close friend and fraternity brother of Washington’s.

Washington says Tomlin has come to his restaurant during Alabama Pro-Days for the past few years.

He felt proud he was asked to bring that same home cooking to a cookout for Steeler coaches and their families.

“It’s just humbling knowing people think highly of your food and the taste that you bring and ask you come. And I know my grandparents, George and Betty, my mom, Paulette, and George, they worked their butt off, years and years and years and years. And I know they’re happy to know that we’re stretching out a little further than Northport and Tuscaloosa,” Washington said.

Washington spent an extra day in there after the cookout working on a business deal that could bring his Alabama BBQ to an established restaurant in Pittsburgh in the future.
