Day 2 of the Tennessee Titans’ mandatory minicamp is in the books, and by all reports, the defense bounced back and won the day. With rookie quarterback Cam Ward taking a larger share of the snaps, ups and downs are to be expected. But that didn’t stop him from making his presence known.
Offensive tackle JC Latham elaborated on Ward and what makes him different after practice, while dropping a nugget on the mental makeup of the young signal caller.
“He holds himself to a leadership and accountability. He’ll admit when he’s wrong and he’ll take accountability,” Latham said. “Even if it’s not 100 percent on him.”

This is the type of leadership that should endear him to members of the offense and other players on the team.
Ward has had a strong couple of days and has shown that he will not back down, even when veteran leaders challenge him. Latham outlined some interaction between Ward and defensive leader Jeffery Simmons, at one point when Simmons got too close to the young quarterback.
“Cam headbutted Jeff!” Latham joked. “As a quarterback, especially a rookie who hasn’t played his first snap, he’s going right at him and not backing down.”
There is no doubt that Ward still has a long way to go before starting his first NFL game, but he is making it clear that he is a leader and will be there for his teammates no matter what. The Titans will have their final day of minicamp on Thursday before taking a break until training camp, giving analysts and fans one last chance to see the young signal caller in action.
