INSTITUTE, W. Va. (WCHS) — It’s been a terrific run the past few seasons for Scott High School. Carson Brinegar and Brayden Clark played key roles in the potent Skyhawk offense. Now they are together as South Cardinal teammates.
Brinegar, a past state 100 meter track champion, dealt with a bevv of injuries in his career and is happy for this moment.
“It means a lot,” said Brinegar. “Really looking forward to it. I didn’t like the way How I ended football. I couldn’t play last game. I’m just very grateful and blessed I was able just to be dressed for my last game. I’m hoping for this this game I get to end on a note I want to end on. So I’m really looking forward to it.”
Clark is equally excited to be a South Cardinal.
“Seeing my teammates before me get in the North-South game, I mean its an honor obviously best players in the state. It’s awesome,” Clark said.
Friday nights in Madison were special for Skyhawk football.
“Pretty amazing. I’m pretty grateful,” Brinegar said. “The atmosphere was insane. We played in so many Top 10 games that I’m so thankful for. Playing against No. 1 that’s been awesome. There’s not many people that get to say they played against a ranked team. The atmosphere was insane. We also had an incredible fan base.”
Clark added, “It was a great four years. We didn’t have a losing record at all. We came from the bottom really. Didn’t have a winning season in about 10 years. Made the playoffs freshman year. Just kept building from there. That last year pretty devastating, but we had a good run.”
Both athletes are off to UC. Brinegar will run tack and could end up playing football, while Clark will suit up in a Golden Eagle uniform.
Two other Scott teammates are on this year’s South squad in Daniel Fennessy and Ty Mitchell.
All four hope for outstanding showing Saturday in representing Great Scott one more time.
