Was there a legit reason for the Eagles to move up to 31? Did they want Campbell but think KC was going to take him?
Philly wasn’t necessarily worried about KC, but the Eagles wanted Campbell and didn’t want anyone else to trade with KC to jump in front of them and take him. So they made sure they got their guy.
Fans are calling for an early-round cornerback selection by the Packers. However, I feel people are sleeping on Kalen King. He was only a year removed from being a projected first-round pick when he went to the Packers in Round 7 last year. What are your thoughts on his ability to play more this year?
I think he’s going to get every opportunity to prove he belongs, but I also expect the Packers to add to the cornerback room in this draft, probably tonight.
Hi II, with all the excitement and aftermath of the draft, the announcement of Steve McMichael passing away shouldn’t be ignored. Yes, he was a Chicago Bear, but a Hall of Famer. The story of his health struggles and his resolve were inspiring. Some things supersede football.
All the best to his family, which got to enjoy a tremendous celebration in Canton last summer amidst his long fight against ALS. Three of that Bears’ front four is now in the HOF – Dent, Hampton and McMichael. I wonder if we’ll ever see that again. I have to hand it to the draft crowd, too. It was respectfully quiet with the Bears on the clock as Goodell gave tributes to Mongo and Walter, and then the jeering volume just shot up as soon as it was appropriate.

The draft Dope Sheet says all eight Packers draft picks are eligible for trade. I wasn’t aware there are picks that can’t be traded. What is an example situation when a pick is not eligible for trade?
For a long time, compensatory picks weren’t tradeable. The NFL rescinded that limitation in 2017.

As the draft creeps toward the latter rounds, given Green Bay’s currently solid QB room, how early would too early be to draft a QB, should one of the perceived top 4-5 QBs fall down the board? With Malik Willis under contract for only one more year, would taking a sliding QB in Round 4 be wise, or better let everything play out and revisit should the QB2 spot need to be addressed come draft weekend 2026?
The fourth might still be too rich for my blood, but taking a QB in the fifth or later seems reasonable to me if the Packers’ evaluation of him is worthy.

The question from Zak from Huntington Beach about expanding the draft longer than three days got me thinking about other ways the NFL might expand the draft. Would they consider multiple sites, for example, like the New Year’s Eve shows? “Let’s go to New Orleans for our next pick!” Or maybe an international site?
I think last night proved that such an idea would take away from the atmosphere created by having it in one place.

It would be interesting to know the largest and fewest number of players with first-round grades by Green Bay during Gutekunst’s years with the Packers as a scout and GM. Could you please ask him when you get a chance? It’s probably privileged information, but maybe he would answer if he only had to give ballpark figures and not divulge the years.
I’ll take a shot someday. Usually once or twice during training camp, he and I will be walking to practice at the same time, so I can try.
Since the draft started Thursday night…I just want to tell you both, good luck. We’re all counting on you.
Lots of work remains. I’ll talk to you again Monday. Enjoy the weekend.
