The Minnesota Vikings will have a chance to acquire one of their former running backs for a second straight season in 2025 after he signed with a new team on Friday.

Cam Akers, who was a part of the Vikings running back rotation in 2024, signed with the New Orleans Saints on Friday. Diana Russini of The Athletic was the first to report the story.

After being drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in 2020, Akers found his way to the Vikings for the 2023 season, showcasing a reliability that fans and the team enjoyed. He would sign with the Texans in free agency before Kwesi Adofo-Mensah traded for him back in 2024, and he would spend the rest of the year with them.

After signing with the Saints, it became a running joke very quickly that fans could expect to see Akers back in a purple uniform come October.

Over the five years of his career, Akers has 502 rushing attempts, 2,025 rushing yards, 13 rushing touchdowns, and 52 catches for 388 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.
