The Chicago Bears welcomed eight new rookies to the roster during the 2025 NFL draft, which included a pair of playmakers in tight end Colston Loveland and wide receiver Luther Burden III with their first two selections.
Chicago also shored up the trenches with the second-round selections of offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo and defensive tackle Shemar Turner. The Bears also found some potential late-round gems with linebacker Ruben Hyppolite II, cornerback Zah Frazier, guard Luke Newman and running back Kyle Monangai on Day 3.

Over the next few days, our Bears Wire staff will be sharing their thoughts about the 2025 rookie class. Next up: Our sleeper draft pick, where Chicago has plenty of potential gems who could develop into impact contributors.
Alyssa Barbieri: RB Kyle Monangai
The Bears have a number of potential sleepers in this draft class, but the one I keep coming back to is Kyle Monangai, who has the best chance to make an immediate impact given the current lack of attention at running back. D’Andre Swift is currently penciled in as the lead back, and Roschon Johnson is waiting in the wings as the between-the-tackles runner. But Monanagi is the best of both worlds; he’s a bruising runner who’s solid in pass protection and is also a home-run hitter. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him challenge for positioning on Ben Johnson’s wide-open depth chart this summer. Monangai could very well be the next Isaiah Pacheco, especially with Johnson calling the shots on offense.
Brendan Sugrue: OT Ozzy Trapilo
When Seth Rollins announced the Ozzy Trapilo pick after he let the Packers crowd have it at the draft, I was initially underwhelmed. He wasn’t a sexy name, and it seemed like a reach, despite having a need at the position. But after digging in and seeing the amount of space Trapilo takes up, plus knowing how reliable he has been for Boston College, I think he’s poised to create instant competition opposite Darnell Wright. Trapilo’s weaknesses, like his high pad level, can be corrected by coaching. He already looks a bit heavier than his listed weight, too, which is what he needs. With Braxton Jones still rehabbing, Trapilo and Kiran Amegadjie will see increased reps throughout minicamp. For all intents and purposes, both players are on equal ground considering Amegadjie spent much of his time rehabbing last offseason. I’m expecting Trapilo to impress early and create some uncertainty on the line. By training camp, he will be discussed as a starting option—earlier than many expect.
Mike Pendleton: LB Ruben Hyppolite II
This pick will more than likely fall under the questionable column for others, but if Hyppolite’s words can be trusted, the Bears have a plan for him. There was a need at linebacker after they lost Jack Sanborn in free agency, and new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen will have plenty of tools to work with on this defense. A speedy linebacker who said the team believes he can play anywhere, Hyppolite could carve out a role for himself fairly quickly. The Bears need to get back to having a consistent and dominating linebacker core, and with T.J. Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds leading the way, Hyppolite wouldn’t be asked to do much, but if he can do just enough, he’ll show why the Bears trusted themselves to take him in the fourth round.
Vincent Parise: RB Kyle Monangai
The Chicago Bears were saved from themselves when the Las Vegas Raiders selected Ashton Jeanty in the top ten before the Bears could use a top 10 pick on him. It’s just not good value for a running back. However, later in the draft, their choices continued to be taken at that position which led to a trade back or two. Finally, they selected Kyle Monangai out of Rutgers in the seventh round, 233rd overall. Landing a guy who didn’t fumble once in college in the seventh round is a sleeper pick. Don’t be surprised if some of these ball-security skills translate to the NFL. If the offensive line is as improved as it appears, he may hit the ground running.
