University of Minnesota defensive back and former Benedictine Military School standout Za’Quan Bryan is returning to his roots this summer with a mission: to uplift and empower the next generation of athletes from his hometown.Coming off a breakout redshirt freshman season with the Golden Gophers, Bryan will host a youth football camp on Sunday, June 29 at Benedictine Military School, where his own football journey began. The camp is open to boys and girls of all skill levels, with registration beginning at 9 a.m. and drills kicking off at 10 a.m. The camp fee is just $15, making it highly accessible for local families.“I was born in Savannah. The group aims to not only teach football skills but also build confidence and inspire belief in the potential of young athletes from small towns.“A lot of people don’t think that kids from Savannah, or from those small towns, can make a big impact in the football world,” Bryan said. “I’m here to let you know that they can—and that’s what I’m here to do with those kids back home.”Bryan is living proof. A two-way star at Benedictine, he helped lead the Cadets to back-to-back Georgia Class 4A state championships in 2021 and 2022, tallying more than 5,000 all-purpose yards, 43 touchdowns, 208 tackles, 15 pass breakups, and six interceptions during his high school career. He committed to Minnesota in 2022 over offers from North Carolina, Coastal Carolina, and Army.After redshirting in 2023, Bryan played in 12 games in 2024, starting three. He recorded 19 tackles, five pass breakups, and one interception, which he returned 32 yards against Virginia Tech. Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck praised Bryan’s “tremendous growth” and projected him as a key piece of the Gophers’ secondary moving forward.
