When Adam Peters was hired to be the general manager of the Washington Commanders, he took over a roster that was one of the worst in the NFL. Washington won just four games in a 2023 season that showed the team had troubles at the quarterback, coach, and front office roles.

In two short off seasons, though, Peters has done enough to have Commanders fans thinking Super Bowl at this time.

Whether it was the hiring of Jayden Daniels and Dan Quinn, the shrewd trades for stars, or the strong draft resume, the Commanders were able to not only reach the conference title game last season, but be in a position to go even further this season as well.

And that is something NFL Insider Albert Breer continues to be amazed about when it comes to Peters’ impact.

“One thing I’m pretty impressed with is how Washington GM Adam Peters has stocked premium positions over his 15 months in charge. He’s added Deebo Samuel to Terry McLaurin at receiver,” Breer said. “He has Laremy Tunsil and first-round pick Josh Conerly Jr. to play tackle. He’s landed Marshon Lattimore, Mike Sainristil and second-rounder Trey Amos at corner. And, of course, Jayden Daniels at quarterback.

“His next job, over the next year or two, will be to find long-term edge rushers. But this is a lot of work done in one year.”

Commanders fans have lived through it all and now have reason to be wondering the same thing: Building a one-year wonder has happened many times before. Building a sustained winner is far more difficult.

Is DC as a Super Bowl contender the real deal?

Answering that question in the affirmative is the task at the feet of Peters at this time with Washington.

There’s reason to suspect he’ll be able to get that done moving forward, though.
