While the San Francisco 49ers are busy making tweaks to the roster before training camp begins, other teams are doing the same, and at least one former 49ers player is looking for a new home.
The New York Jets announced on Thursday that they are waiving former San Francisco cornerback Tre Swilling.
The 26-year-old Swilling spent all of last season on the Jets’ practice squad and appeared in one game, the season finale in a 32-20 win over the Miami Dolphins. Swilling appeared in three special-teams plays.
Swilling played collegiately for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and went undrafted in 2022.
He spent time that offseason with the Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints before landing in San Francisco in December, where he was signed to the practice squad.

Swilling signed a reserve/futures contract before being waived the following August, then was re-signed to the practice squad.
The former Yellow Jacket was elevated to the active roster after an injury to corner Samuel Womack. Swilling was active for two games and appeared on special teams.
With the experience level Swilling has he shouldn’t have a hard time landing on his feet on a practice squad somewhere. As the summer grows shorter, he’ll be hoping to land on a 53-man roster come September.
