He’s a Miami Dolphin, but he’ll always be a part of the pack.
“Raleigh’s been such a great city to me,” Bradley Chubb said. “I just wanted to give back to this community as much as I could.”
The former NC State defensive end held his first Raleigh based free youth football camp at the Close-King Indoor practice facility Sunday. The event was a partnership between Chubb’s Foundation and the Savage Wolves collective.
“Glad to get the first one in the books,” Chubb said. “It’s Father’s day, a lot of fathers came out.”
Chubb is known for tackling quarterbacks, but throws a pretty nice spiral too. The 2017 ACC defensive player of the year was playing quarterback at his drill station.
“For me it’s an opportunity to get into the community, get into these kids ear,” Chubb said. “Give them little tidbits of information that helped me have success. I feel like that’s what it’s all about, pushing the game forward, pushing life forward, and setting the next generation up for success.”
While some kids were catching touchdowns from Chubb, others were getting coached up by current Wolfpack players like Justin Jolly and Wesley Grimes.
“It’s amazing just seeing the kid’s enthusiasm, it’s always fun to run out here with the kids,” Grimes said. “Just watch them laugh, smile, have a good time, throw the football around. It’s just a joyful experience, I was happy to be here.”
Grimes is a Millbrook High School alum who transferred from Wake Forest University to NC State last season. The senior wide receiver is giving back now and is ready to give it his all this season.
“The group of guys we have is a special group and we are getting better each and every day,” Grimes said. “It feels like something special is coming to Carter-Finley, having fun with a group of guys, it’s a brotherhood and I love this team.”
Chubb missed last season with a torn ACL, and had to watch as the Dolphins missed the playoffs. He’s back healthy and is confident in Miami’s chances of getting back to the postseason.
“We are all moving in that direction,” Chubb said. “A lot of guys are focused, locked in, ready to go and that was just during OTAs. I know when training camp and the season comes up it’s going to be ten times, I’m excited.”
