Today the Raiders made a blockbuster move. They landed Seahawks QB Geno Smith for the 73rd overall pick. That’s the third round pick the got in the Davante Adams trade.

That is a great deal for the Raiders to get their new starter and not even have to give up any of their original picks in the process. But before that deal was made the Seahawks apparently had a funny joke to tell.

The Seahawks wanted to trade two players they didn’t want for Maxx Crosby. And once the Raiders caught their breath from laughing, they were all able to relax and discuss realistic scenarios.

Respect to Seahawks brass for shooting their shot. And, yeah, landing DK Metcalf would be nice. Something that is still certainly possible. But not for the Raiders best player.

For those who haven’t had their finger on the pulse lately, not only are the Raiders not interested in trading Maxx Crosby, but they gave him an extension that makes him the highest paid non-QB in NFL history. So, yeah, they aen’t looking to unload him anytime soon.

Pete Carroll wants to win right now. Hence the trade to land Smith. He is not only familiar with Smith, but he has proven himself to be one of the better QB’s in the league the past three seasons.

Credit where it’s due for the Raiders new GM John Spytek for making this deal after quickly shooting down the original offer.
