A look 2024 third-round pick Trey Benson and his second-year outlook in 2025
The Arizona Cardinals drafted 12 players in 2024. Some of them had contributions as rookies. Some will have greater roles in 2025. Others will have to battle for the roster.
They selected running back Trey Benson in the third round with the 66th overall pick.
Entering Year 2 in the NFL, let’s have a look at his 2025 outlook.
RB Trey Benson’s 2024 season
Benson started slowly then showed some flashes of why everyone was excited about when he was draft. But then he finished the season injured. He had a 50-yard rushing game and his best game came against the New York Jets and had 87 yards from scrimmage, rushing 10 times for 62 yards and catching two passes for 25.
He missed the final three games with an ankle injury.
He finished playing in 13 games, rushing for 291 yards and a touchdown on 4.6 yards per attempt, and he had six receptions for 59 yards.
His role was as the backup to James Conner, coming in to spell him, averaging a little less than five carries a game.
Trey Benson’s Year 2 outlook in 2025
Benson is ready for a bigger role. He added a little weight and is healthy again. He believes he can be more than just a guy to spell Conner for a few plays. He envisions the Cardinals having two RB1s.
Whether that becomes the case where he is pushing his usage to about 15-plus touches again, he is more likely to average about 10-12 touches a game in 2025.
