CINCINNATI (WKRC) – The Bengals will have a little more salary cap space to use for the rest of this offseason after details were revealed on the restructured contract of running back Zack Moss.
The restructured deal was initially reported on April 21.
According to the website Spotrac.com, which tracks professional sports contracts, Moss signed a one-year deal worth $1.7 million with $375,000 guaranteed. He initially signed a two-year deal as a free agent last offseason and was scheduled to earn $3.475 million this season. The move saves the Bengals $1.7 million of salary cap space.
Moss suffered a season-ending neck injury in practice prior to the the Nov. 3 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Bengals signed veteran free agent Samaje Perine in the offseason and have Chase Brown coming off a great second half of the season as the main back, and they also selected running back Tahj Brooks in the sixth round of the recently completed NFL Draft.
According to Spotrac.com, the Bengals now have $25.9 million in salary cap space, but as always keep in mind to deduct about $10-15 million from that for things the team accounts for that the website doesn’t — signing draft picks, paying for the practice squad, money set aside for signing players during the season when injuries arise and for incentives, among other things. That still leaves roughly $12-15 million, and they can add another $5.85 million to that when they release veteran linebacker Germaine Pratt, as expected. Some of that money could be used toward an extension for defensive end Trey Hendrickson and/or to sign a veteran safety where depth and competition is much needed.
