The 2024 NFL draft marked the second draft of General Manager Omar Khan. We already broke down the strength of the 2023 draft class and where we see them fit in the upcoming season. Next up, we have the 2024 class which features two guys coming back from injuries that cut their rookie seasons short.
Here is the Steelers full 2024 draft class.
1 (20): T Troy Fautanu, Washington2 (51): C Zach Frazier, West Virginia3 (84): WR Roman Wilson, Michigan3 (97): LB Payton Wilson, NC State4 (119): G Mason McCormick, South Dakota State6 (178): DI Logan Lee, Iowa6 (195): CB Ryan Watts, Texas
Initially, this draft felt like a group that could all end up either as starters or playing prominent roles on the team. Unfortunately, safety Ryan Watts was forced into retirement after a neck injury in his rookie season. Let’s take a look at the rest of the class and project their roles in 2025.
Offensive tackle Troy Fautanu
After missing all of his rookie season with a knee injury, Fautanu is healthy and set to be the starter at right tackle. Fautanu was supposed to make this move last season but despite being a season late, we expect big things from him this season.
Center Zach Frazier
Frazier assumed the starting job as a rookie and was one of the highest-graded centers in the entire NFL. We expect no let up here as Frazier got better and better as the season went on.
Wide receiver Roman Wilson
Wilson missed all of his rookie season with an injury but he’s healthy now and looks to be in tremendous shape. If Calvin Austin III moves to the No. 2 spot opposite DK Metcalf, Wilson has a great chance to step into the starting slot role.
Linebacker Payton Wilson
Wilson only started four games in 2024 but finished fourth on the team with 78 total tackles. Wilson was a steal in 2024 and it took him no time to prove it. This season, as the full-time starter with Patrick Queen, he has All-Pro potential.
Guard Mason McCormick
Like Frazier, McCormick was thrust into the starting lineup as an injury replacement and like Frazier, he excelled. Just like Frazier, we expect McCormick to be even better this season and really solidify the interior offensive line.
Defensive tackle Logan Lee
Lee is the third member of this class to spend all of 2024 on injured reserve. We are rooting for a big comeback from Lee like Fautanu and Wilson but aren’t holding out hope he can work his way up the depth chart. He could end up a rotational guy if he can win a spot on the 53-man roster.
