Larry Fitzgerald, the legendary sure-handed wide receiver with the Arizona Cardinals, was named the most iconic Arizona sports figure, according to Arizona Republic readers.

Fitzgerald beat out former Arizona State Sun Devils star Pat Tillman. On his way to the championship round, Fitzgerald beat Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash, Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi and Suns forward Charles Barkley.

Fitzgerald faced little resistance in the tournament. The future Hall of Famer’s largest margin of victory came against Diana Taurasi, which he won by 1,631 votes. Fitzgerald’s closest margin of victory came against Tillman in the title match with 191 votes.

One of, if not the greatest player in Arizona Cardinals franchise history, Larry Fitzgerald amassed 17,492 receiving yards, 1,432 receptions and 121 touchdowns in 17 seasons.

The 11-time Pro Bowler received the Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 2016. Fitzgerald will be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2026.
