New York Jets Add “The Thiccer Kicker” to Roster originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The New York Jets have added Harrison Mevis, late of the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions, according to multiple reports.

Mevis is known as “The Thiccer Kicker” due to his playing weight of 243 pounds. He went 20-for-21 on field goal attempts while with the Stallions this spring, his longest coming from 54 yards. Mevis was named UFL Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 7, where he went a perfect 3-for-3 on field goal attempts.

The Warsaw, Indiana native was a college standout with Missouri, where he kicked the longest field goal in SEC history, a 61-yarder on September 16, 2023 in the closing seconds of a matchup against 15th-ranked Kansas State. In his career with Missouri, Mevis converted 84% of his field goals and 45 of 46 of his extra points.

He signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent after the 2024 NFL Draft, but was waived on August 11, losing the job to Eddy Pineiro.

If Mevis is successful in winning the job with the Jets, he will join standout NFL kickers like Brandon Aubrey (Dallas Cowboys) and Jake Bates (Detroit Lions) in finding success after kicking for the spring league.

The Jets, who used five different kickers last season, also have Anders Carlson and undrafted rookie Caden Davis on the roster for what is expected to be an open competition for the job. Carlson kicked briefly for the team last season, converting 80% of his field goal attempts but just 81.8% of his extra points. Carlson was released by the Jets on December 30 and resigned two weeks later on a reserve/futures contract.
