With offseason programs now behind us, we will be getting a jump start on our training camp preview by going player-by-player through the Indianapolis Colts’ 91-man roster.

Going alphabetically, up next is linebacker Joe Bachie.

Bachie would go undrafted in 2020 and spent time that year with New Orleans and Philadelphia. In 2021, he would join the Cincinnati Bengals, which is where he has spent his career up until this point, when he joined the Colts earlier this offseason as a free agent.

As the snap count figures show, Bachie’s role on defense has been small. In 2024, he played just 36 defensive snaps and has totaled 70 snaps over the last three seasons combined.

Special teams, however, is where Bachie has made his impact, playing over 200 snaps in each of the last three seasons, and doing so in 2024 on five of the six different phases. For what it’s worth, out of 217 players league-wide who played at least 200 special teams snaps last season, Bachie ranked 129th by PFF’s grading system.

Looking ahead to the 2025 season

As was mentioned when discussing fellow linebackers Austin Ajiake and Liam Anderson, perhaps with so much defensive inexperience at this position group and a new defensive system being implemented, several roster spots could be wide open this summer.

However, when it comes to making the Colts’ 53-man roster, Bachie has two things going for him. One is that he has an immediate path towards contributing on special teams. Outside of Franklin, no other linebacker has more special-teams snaps in their career than Bachie.

The second reason he could make this team is that Bachie has spent the last four seasons with the Bengals playing under now Colts’ defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo. While at this time I don’t expect Bachie to start Week 1, he’ll have a leg up on many at this position and can play an important role when it comes to implementing this system over the summer.

Following offseason programs, I put together an early 53-man roster prediction, and Bachie was firmly planted within the linebacker room.
