Chiefs’ Marquise Brown Opens Up On Last Season’s Struggles originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The 2024 season was supposed to be Marquise Brown’s bounce-back year with the Kansas City Chiefs, but the football gods had other ideas.

After going through all of preseason, Brown, on the first play of Kansas City’s preseason game, injured his shoulder, which required surgery and ruled him out until Week 16.

And when Brown did return, he posted 91 yards from nine receptions in two regular-season games, before five receptions and 50 yards in three playoff games.

So it wasn’t what “Hollywood” had in mind, but did his output bother him?

“No, because I really leaned into my faith, I wasn’t coming back expecting anything,” Brown said. “I was coming back just trying to help whichever way I could, that was my mindset. It helped carry me through the end of last year. I was just really grateful that I had the opportunity to come back.”

Brown was signed last offseason to help Patrick Mahomes get his deep ball back, but when you are out for nearly all of the regular season, things don’t just click straight away, and the Chiefs found that out.

But now, Brown, again, has been involved in the offseason workouts as minicamp continues; however, he’s been here before, and while it isn’t known if he will participate in any preseason games, the receiver is looking to hit the ground running in 2025.

Injury stole most of his 2024 season, and Brown is now ready to put that in the past and develop into a consistent weapon for Mahomed and Andy Reid.
