Adam Schefter and ESPN will bet on no major NFL news breaking later this week.

Schefter has spent 16 years unearthing NFL scoops for ESPN, but he’ll work a different beat for the Worldwide Leader. On Tuesday’s Unsportsmanlike, the insider revealed that he’s covering the PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship as a sideline reporter.

“I am currently awaiting my assignment to see which featured group I’m going to be paired with on Thursday morning at the Travelers,” Schefter said.

The 58-year-old won’t wear his usual suit on what’s expected to be a hot Thursday at TPC River Highlands. That shouldn’t be a problem, as Schefter said he’s getting a PGA Tour shirt for his new gig.

Social media followers may have noticed Schefter posting more golf content recently. On Tuesday, Schefter shared an open letter from CEO Brian Rolapp, who spent the last two decades as the NFL’s chief media and business officer.

Schefter said some saw Rolapp as a “potential successor” to Roger Goodell, but he’ll instead lead the PGA Tour with Jay Monahan stepping down in 2026.

Talk surfaced of Schefter trying his hand at another sport for ESPN last year. He was floated as a candidate to work double duty as an NBA insider following Adrian Wojnarowski’s abrupt exit, but the company hired Shams Charania to fill the role.

This golf assignment is new territory for Schefter, who shouldn’t have to report rumors about clubs and caddies on the course. It may give him a rare opportunity to put his phone away.

The NFL news cycle rarely sleeps, but perhaps Aaron Rodgers finally signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers gave Schefter the window to pursue another interest away from the gridiron.

ESPN+ will stream the Travelers Championship from Thursday to Sunday. Schefter will have some early mornings ahead, as the opening round’s coverage begins at 7:30 a.m. ET.
