Who did the Indianapolis Colts select in Pro Football Focus’ 2012 NFL redraft?

Using hindsight and their grading system as a guide, PFF reselected the entire first round of the 2012 draft. As we know, this was the draft in which the Colts selected Andrew Luck with the first overall pick.

However, PFF decided to go in a different direction this time around. So instead, with the first pick, the Colts chose Russell Wilson, who was originally selected by Seattle in the third round.

“The Colts get their quarterback, but this time it’s third-round pick Russell Wilson, who has played at a high level throughout his 13-year NFL career,” wrote PFF. “Wilson has slowed down a bit recently, but from 2012 to 2020, he compiled a 93.3 PFF passing grade that ranked fifth in the NFL. His 86.8 PFF rushing grade in that span ranked second among quarterbacks, and he led the position in rushing yards when including postseason play.”

Wilson is about to begin his 14th NFL season, now playing with the New York Giants. Over his career, he has been a 10-time Pro Bowler and won a Super Bowl with Seattle in 2013.

On two occasions, he was a second-team All-Pro and finished in the top five in Offensive Player of the Year voting four times.

Statistically, the 2015 season was Wilson’s best, with him completing 68% of his passes at 8.3 yards per attempt with 34 touchdowns to just eight interceptions.

In this redraft, Luck went fourth overall to the Cleveland Browns.

“Even knowing Luck played only six seasons, he belongs in the top five of a redraft,” wrote PFF. “He recorded single-season PFF overall grades of 90.4 and 91.2 in his final two campaigns, making his retirement due to injuries all the more shocking.”

With the Colts, Luck was a four-time Pro Bowler, the 2018 Comeback Player of the Year, and finished second in Rookie of the Year voting.

In six seasons, he completed 61% of his passes, throwing for 23,671 yards with 171 touchdowns to 83 interceptions. The Colts made four playoff appearances during that span, including a trip to the AFC Championship Game in 2014.
