Lane Johnson Poised To Join Elite Group of “Eagles for Life’ originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

In the salary cap era, it is difficult for teams to retain long-time fan favorites.

Tom Brady did not finish his career with the New England Patriots, and Peyton Manning did not finish as an Indianapolis Colt.

The same is true for the Philadelphia Eagles. Great players like Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook, and Brian Dawkins all finished their careers on different teams.

When the organization actually has a chance to allow one of its own to have that moment, it truly is something special. Jason Kelce, Fletcher Cox, and Brandon Graham are examples.

The next on the list could be All-Pro tackle Lane Johnson.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero recently talked about Johnson and his chance at being a lifetime Eagle.

“Lane Johnson starting to sneak up that list as well,” Pelissero said. “Now 35 years old as he gets ready for another season with the Philadelphia Eagles. He’s dealt with a ton of injuries but is coming off his sixth Pro Bowl now.

“Big deal for Howie Roseman is those lifetime Eagles. Fletcher Cox, Jason Kelce, Brandon Graham. Lane Johnson, as long as he is willing to get himself back on the field, which sometimes is a battle, expect him to be doing it in Philadelphia.”

Philadelphia is well known for moving on from players who can no longer cut it on the field. The fact that Kelce, Cox, and Graham never showed signs of slowing down made the decision easy for the front office.

Johnson is making the call easy as well.

So long as he continues to play at an All-Pro level, the Eagles will have nothing to worry about. And Johnson will continue to be on a level few players enjoy in their careers.
