The NFL announced on Wednesday the training camp reporting date and location for the Indianapolis Colts and the other 31 teams.
As they have, the Colts will hold training camp at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana. The rookies will report on July 21st, and the veterans will report a day later on July 22nd.
While we try to glean as much information as we can during minicamp, the emphasis during that portion of the offseason is on installs, along with fundamentals, technique, and communication.
All of that remains important once training camp arrives, but in late July, the pads come on, the intensity picks up, and the playing time and positional competitions really start to unfold.
When it comes to the Colts and their early training camp practices, all eyes will be on the quarterback position and Anthony Richardson’s availability.
It was recently reported by Ian Rapoport that Richardson “is expected to be fine” by the start of training camp. However, as Shane Steichen mentioned, when Richardson does return, there will be a ramp-up period to help him get back into throwing shape.
When that takes place will be dependent upon when he’s cleared to return to throwing activities. But just because he’s on the practice field on Day 1 may not mean he’s a full-go on Day 1.
During minicamp, with Richardson sidelined, Daniel Jones took all the starting reps, and Steichen was “very pleased” with his play.
