The NFL announced the dates for each joint practice that will take place this summer.

We already knew that the Jaguars would hold a joint practice with the Miami Dolphins prior to the two teams’ Week 3 preseason matchup, but now we know that this practice will take place on August 21st.

The actual preseason game itself will take place on August 23rd in Miami at 7:00 PM ET.

Joint practices have been a common occurrence around the NFL. For one, it provides starters, who likely aren’t playing during the preseason, with game-like reps in a more controlled practice environment.

These joint practices also break up what can be long days in training camp by competing against another opponent, and with these practices not televised, teams can go a little deeper into their playbooks than the very vanilla looks we see in the preseason.

This summer, in particular for the Jaguars, with a new offensive scheme and a new defensive scheme being implemented, these joint practices could be especially valuable, given that playing time for key starters is often limited or non-existent during the preseason.
