Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi made many roster changes this offseason. Through free agency and the draft, the Titans are in the thick of a rebuilding season. There is an aura of hope surrounding the team, though, stemming from the excitement Cam Ward brought to the organization. The offensive issues have largely been addressed despite the lack of ‘big names’ added. But what about the defense?

Borgonzi was very focused on the offense this offseason, and rightfully so. The defense didn’t need as many adjustments, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t areas of opportunity. The Titans made a few adjustments, but Pro Football Network doesn’t think it’s enough, ranking the Titans’ defense in the bottom third of the NFL.

22) Tennessee TitansCam Ward has brought excitement to Tennessee, but this defense has been trending in the wrong direction, and a shiny new toy under center isn’t going to help correct course. In 2022, the Titans were ranked as our 12th-best defense, but they regressed to 20th in 2023, before finishing 22nd last season.Only the Panthers and Raiders were worse at generating pressure when blitzing than Tennessee last season — that needs to be rectified for this team to have any chance of showing signs of growth in 2025.

Well, Borgonzi added Dre’Mont Jones, Cody Barton, and Oluwafemi Oladejo, among others, to help with getting pressure on opposing quarterbacks. No, those aren’t big names, and Oladejo is a rookie, but it’s not always about having a big name. Most of the time, it’s about how players fit together on the field. When players fit well together, complement each other, and are all on the same page, that’s when you see true growth and improvement.

Having the 22nd-ranked defense with a group that is untested isn’t terrible. It may not be accurate, but again, they’re untested, so it’s hard to say PFN is wrong. This writer doesn’t necessarily agree with the placement, but I understand why they landed where they did. Dennard Wilson will need to get his players on the same page if the Titans want to see improvement in 2025.
