FRISCO — LPGA rookie Chisato Iwai of Japan professes that she knows nothing about football, but she now has a favorite NFL team.
The Cowboys.
That’s because Iwai, 22, played her Tuesday KPMG Women’s PGA Championship pro-am round with Cowboys punter Bryan Anger, placekicker Brandon Aubrey and deep snapper Trent Sieg.
“They were very fun,” said Iwai, who just started learning English three months ago. Speaking to The Dallas Morning News after her 1-under 71 in Thursday’s first round, Iwai laughed and made a kicking motion with her right foot.

An interpreter explained that Aubrey and Anger actually brought a football and, on the first hole of the pro-am, showed her how they punt and kick while Iwai displayed her chipping ability.
After the pro-am round, Iwai gave the Cowboys players a signed KPMG PGA Championship flag. And after Thursday’s round, Cowboys public relations coordinator Bronte Hermesmeyer presented Iwai with a blue No. 25 Cowboys jersey with her name on the back.
“This is on behalf of Bryan and Brandon and Trent,” Hermesmeyer said as a beaming Iwai showed off the jersey.
It was a fitting conclusion to a day in which Iwai made three birdies and chipped in for eagle on the par-4 seventh hole, when her ball took a sideways hop off the side of the green, rammed into the flagstick and dropped into the cup.
“It was so lucky,” she said. “It was so strong shot, but hit the pin.”
