There are still some intriguing free agents on the offensive side that the Saints may look for during training camp.

There is still a little over a month before the New Orleans Saints begin training camp. New Orleans may not be done bringing in free agents to the team in an attempt to bolster the roster. New head coach Kellen Moore may specifically target some specific names for his offense. The Saints have recently added a few new faces on that side of the ball with veteran running back Cam Akers and a few former UFL contributors.

New Orleans doesn’t have a lot of salary cap space. However, they’ve created enough room to add a few more players to one-year deals if they choose. Here are some intriguing veterans on the offensive side that are still available on the market. (player’s age in parentheses)

QUARTERBACKTeddy Bridgewater (32)Carson Wentz (32)Tyler Huntley (27)

Wisely, the Saints seem content on seeing how quickly rookie Tyler Shough and second-year Spencer Rattler develop. If both struggle through the early portions of camp and preseason, Moore and the Saints may want to bring in a quality veteran backup. Situations that bear watching are Jameis Winston with the Giants or Kenny Pickett with Cleveland. New Orleans won’t trade any draft capital for a quarterback but could be willing to sign a veteran if Shough and Rattler don’t develop as quickly as hoped.

RUNNING BACKGus Edwards (30)Jeff Wilson (29)Chris Evans (27)Chase Edmonds (29)Ameer Abdullah (32)

New Orleans just signed Akers to push veterans Kendre Miller and Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Rookie sixth-round choice Devin Neal could also be a draft steal. It seems unlikely that the Saints sign another back before camp. However, yet another injury from Miller or if Akers turns out to be ineffective, then the team could bring in another body here before the conclusion of preseason.

TIGHT ENDGerald Everett (31)C.J. Uzomah (32)Geoff Swaim (32)Anthony Firkser (30)

New Orleans already has a crowded room here with nine players on the roster, including Taysom Hill. However, Hill and Foster Moreau are rehabbing injuries and may not be available until well into camp. Additionally, five of the other tight ends on the roster have spent most or all of their careers on the practice squad. Everett, Uzomah, and Swaim have all spent at least one year playing for Kellen Moore and a number of the other New Orleans offensive assistants. If Moreau and Hill are delayed in their returns, the Saints could look for some veteran insurance behind starter Juwan Johnson.

WIDE RECEIVERGabe Davis (26)Tyler Boyd (30)Amari Cooper (31)Keenan Allen (33)DJ Chark (28)

The Saints have already visited with Davis, who has some other interest around the league. Most expected New Orleans to pursue Allen or Cooper because they each played for Moore, but the Saints have shown no interest in either thus far. New Orleans might be counting on second-year wideout Bub Means or newly-signed Donovan Peoples-Jones to step up as the possession receiver out of this group. Starters Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed are an explosive tandem, but the Saints may still look to add quality depth with Davis or another signing.

OFFENSIVE LINEDalton Risner (30)Cody Whitehair (33)Andrus Peat (31)Shaq Mason (32)Mark Glowinski (33)

All listed here are predominantly guards. The Saints have a potentially dominant duo of tackles in recent first round picks Taliese Fuaga and Kelvin Banks Jr. along with emergency replacements in Trevor Penning, now at left guard, and Landon Young. New Orleans has also brought in a couple former UFL starters and added former NFL starter Dillon Radunz on the inside. While unlikely they add another veteran, you only have to look back at last year to remember the Saints lack of quality depth when injuries ravaged the offensive line.
