Who to go for?

Arsenal legend David O’Leary insists Arsenal must sign a striker in the summer but hints they must be cautious in their pursuit.

After three consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League, it’s become clear that a new attacking signing is needed.

Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko, of Sporting Lisbon and RB Leipzig respectively, are both targets for the Gunners.

But O’Leary has hinted that Arsenal could face a conundrum when deciding to pick between the two players.

“I don’t think he’s been denied a no. 9, I think Mikel has chosen over the last couple of years to go a different way.

“Kind of a false nine or get [Kai] Havertz playing, he can balance from dropping into midfield.

“I don’t think he’s been denied buying a centre forward, I think what’s come home to roost is that they really need a no. 9 now.

“They’re definitely in the market for it, it smells to me that their no. 1 choice is Sesko, and they’re trying to keep the lad on board from Sporting Lisbon.

“To me, they’re juggling these two. Sesko looks, to me, the one they really fancy.

“And it smells again the club is looking for a lot of money and I’m sure what comes with that, the player’s looking for a lot of money with it.

“Then you’ve got the thing of, ‘Are we going to pull away from that because it’s going to get too expensive and go after the other lad, who, we don’t want to make him feel he’s our second choice?'”
