Fox Sports radio host Colin Cowherd isn’t afraid to criticize Shedeur Sanders, that’s for sure.

During the 2025 NFL Draft, Cowherd wasn’t outraged about Sanders sliding down teams’ boards. When the Cleveland Browns selected him with the 144th overall pick, however, he predicted that Sanders would start at some point this upcoming season.
“The owner of the Cleveland Browns, Jimmy Haslam, is really impulsive,” Cowherd said. “He drafted Johnny Manziel over better quarterbacks. He drafted Baker Mayfield. He signed Deshaun Watson to a ridiculous guaranteed deal. There’s a lot of belief in the NFL that Jimmy Haslam is the reason that, of all teams, Cleveland finally drafted Shedeur Sanders. He is desperate to be recognized and for star power.”
Roughly a week later, Cowherd has completely changed his opinion of Sanders.
While on national TV this Thursday, Cowherd ripped Sanders for allegedly driving more than 100 MPH in a 55 MPH zone.

Cowherd is so baffled by Sanders’ decision-making that he’s completely out on the rookie quarterback.
“I do not cling to opinions. New information, new opinion. I don’t think about him the same. When you fall to (pick) 144 in the draft, and then you try to match that number behind the wheel of a car, I don’t think the same,” Cowherd said. “You ignored signs about Manziel and Baker. And, apparently, based on the traffic violation, Shedeur was avoiding some signs, too – that say stop. I’m not sure he’s mature enough. Now I’m going to have to like Kenny Pickett.”

Some people are defending Cowherd’s take on Sanders. For the most part though, he’s getting called out for already selling his stock on the rookie from Colorado.

“Sad part is I knew that there were people waiting for him to make any mistake to unleash all their pinned up internal un warranted hatred for this young man, I just couldn’t believe you were one of those people,” one person wrote on X.
“What a dumb take. He’s 23. People make mistakes,” a fan commented.
Another fan said, “We have been watching QB play like this for 20 years in Cleveland and you think we care about a couple of speeding tickets?”
“At the most important position in football, this isn’t allowed. Where he was drafted he knew he had to keep his nose clean and name out of the news. Didn’t last a month. Backup QB’s have been cut for less,” a fourth fan wrote.

The Browns don’t have any plans to cut Sanders at this time. He’s expected to compete for a spot on the 53-man roster throughout the summer.
Only time will tell if Cowherd’s comments about Sanders age gracefully.
